Um exemplo de como as empresas precisam levar em conta as press\u00f5es sociais \u00e9 dado pelo caso Fair Trade Coffe da rede de cafeterias norte-americana Starbucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Diversas empresas enfrentam desafios semelhantes, como foi o caso da Nestl\u00e9, que se tornou alvo de uma campanha negativa sobre o uso de \u00e1gua pot\u00e1vel no planeta, por ser a maior fornecedora mundial de \u00e1guas minerais, ou da Nike, que sofreu fortes ataques devido \u00e0s pr\u00e1ticas trabalhistas de alguns de seus fornecedores na \u00c1sia. Estes exemplos mostram a variedade de situa\u00e7\u00f5es que se encontram sob o guarda-chuva do termo Responsabilidade Social Corporativa (RSC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; N\u00e3o h\u00e1 consenso quanto ao escopo da RSC. O grande n\u00famero de defini\u00e7\u00f5es existente, mais do que a busca de cada autor por sua pr\u00f3pria defini\u00e7\u00e3o, reflete a diversidade de entendimentos quanto ao \u00e2mbito e significado do termo. Inicialmente, as a\u00e7\u00f5es de RSC assumiram a forma de participa\u00e7\u00e3o comunit\u00e1ria e filantropia. Na d\u00e9cada de 1980, o foco da RSC dirigiu-se para quest\u00f5es mais amplas de \u00e9tica empresarial. Pressionadas pela amea\u00e7a de regulamenta\u00e7\u00e3o governamental das atividades empresariais, as empresas partiram para a auto-regulamenta\u00e7\u00e3o, tanto em suas pr\u00e1ticas individuais, quanto nas pr\u00e1ticas setoriais. Surgem, neste per\u00edodo, v\u00e1rios c\u00f3digos de auto-regulamenta\u00e7\u00e3o, o que foi interpretado, muitas vezes, como um esfor\u00e7o por parte das empresas para afastar a amea\u00e7a de regulamenta\u00e7\u00e3o governamental.
