Os pa\u00edses desenvolvidos e aqueles prestes a ingressar neste seleto grupo fazem investimentos elevados em P&amp;D e em educa\u00e7\u00e3o, particularmente em ci\u00eancias e engenharia. Pa\u00edses como a Coreia do Sul e Taiwan, por exemplo, investiram fortemente em ci\u00eancia, tecnologia e educa\u00e7\u00e3o, desprendendo-se de outros pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento. Empresas desses pa\u00edses, tais como Samsung, LG e ACER, est\u00e3o hoje entre as l\u00edderes de v\u00e1rios setores de alta tecnologia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; No Brasil, segundo pesquisa realizada pelo instituto de Pesquisa Econ\u00f4mica e Aplicada (IPEA), apenas 1,7% das empresas industriais s\u00e3o fortemente inovadoras, o que equivale a 1.200 empresas. Entre estas se encontram Embraer, Braskem, Petrobras e Gerdau. Em conjunto, estas 1.200 empresas respondem por 26% do faturamento da ind\u00fastria brasileira, pagam sal\u00e1rios tr\u00eas vezes maiores do que as demais e vendem seus produtos no exterior a pre\u00e7os at\u00e9 30% superiores aos das empresas brasileiras que n\u00e3o inovam. S\u00e3o elas que embarcam hoje em acelerado processo de internacionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o, formando o grupo de elite da ind\u00fastria brasileira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; As diversas conceitua\u00e7\u00f5es de novo produto variam desde o conceito amplo, de que o novo produto \u00e9 qualquer tipo de inova\u00e7\u00e3o ou aprimoramento, at\u00e9 o conceito mais restrito, do que o novo produto \u00e9 apenas aquele in\u00e9dito, totalmente novo e original. Considerando-se inova\u00e7\u00e3o no sentido mais amplo, h\u00e1 duas perspectivas relevantes: a do produto que \u00e9 novo para o mercado e a do produto que \u00e9 novo para a empresa. Em outras palavras, um produto pode ser novo para empresa e j\u00e1 conhecido no mercado, porque outros concorrentes j\u00e1 o comercializam, e pode ser conhecido pela empresa (que o vende em outra regi\u00e3o geogr\u00e1fica, por exemplo) e novo para determinado mercado. Um estudo famoso, realizado na d\u00e9cada de 1980 pela empresa de consultoria Booz-Allen &amp; Hamilton, considerou as seguintes categorias de novos produtos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Produtos novos para o mundo;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Novas linhas de produto;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Adi\u00e7\u00f5es a linhas de produtos j\u00e1 existentes;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Melhorias e revis\u00f5es de produtos j\u00e1 existentes;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Redu\u00e7\u00f5es de custo;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Reposicionamentos;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Uma classifica\u00e7\u00e3o mais orientada para o conte\u00fado de inova\u00e7\u00e3o considera duas categorias:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Inova\u00e7\u00f5es radicais ou descont\u00ednuas;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Inova\u00e7\u00f5es incrementais;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; As inova\u00e7\u00f5es radicais geram maior valor para as empresas. Um estudo realizado por pesquisadores da escola de neg\u00f3cios francesa Insead mostrou que os lan\u00e7amentos novos para o mercado (14% do total de lan\u00e7amentos estudados), incorporando inova\u00e7\u00f5es conceituais, responderam por 38% das receitas e 61% dos lucros, mas que os demais lan\u00e7amentos (86% do total), caracterizados por inova\u00e7\u00f5es incrementais, correspondiam a apenas 62% das receitas e 39% dos lucros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Apesar de ser considerado ideal um portf\u00f3lio balanceado, \u00e9 claro que as empresas fazem suas op\u00e7\u00f5es a partir de diversas considera\u00e7\u00f5es, inclusive estrat\u00e9gicas. A Braskem, empresa brasileira do setor petroqu\u00edmico, definia-se como seguidora r\u00e1pida das inova\u00e7\u00f5es em sua ind\u00fastria.
